How to Prep For Your Session.
Planning for your session should not be stressful, it should be fun! In this guide you will find helpful tips to prepare for your session.
Session Prep Timeline
The week leading up to your session:
If you choose to wax, please do so 3-4 days prior to your session to allow time for any redness to fade away. However, please note that bikini waxing is not required. If you have never waxed before, please don't feel like you have to, as many do not.
Treat yourself to a mani and pedi! Schedule your appointment a day or two before your session.
Try on all of your wardrobe pieces that you plan to bring to make sure everything fits properly and you are comfortable in them. This is actually extremely important, as you do not want to discover on the day of your session (when it is too late) that a piece of lingerie you were excited to wear doesn't fit.
The day of your session:
Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!
Eat. Do not starve yourself leading up to your session or especially the day of your appointment.
Wear loose, non-restrictive clothing to the studio. We want to avoid red lines on the skin caused by tight fitting clothes. Please do NOT wear any type of jeans or extremely tight fitting clothes to the studio. The looser the clothes the better. (We have robes in the studio for you to change into while in hair and makeup.)
Please come to the studio with no makeup on (you can still moisturize the morning of your session).
If your hair type is naturally straight to slightly wavy with fine to medium texture, please arrive at the studio with clean hair that is completely DRY and free of any product or any use of hot tools prior to your arrival. We suggest washing your hair the day before or the morning of your session (whichever way your hair tends to hold style best.)
If your natural hair type is very wavy or curly and is thick or coarse in texture, we still ask that you arrive with clean, completely DRY hair, but please use your best judgment in preparing your hair to be styled by our professional stylist on the day of your session. (After all, you know your hair best!) For example, if you wish to arrive to the studio with your hair already straightened or pressed because you know that is the best way for your hair to hold curl, please do so. If there is a specific product that you feel your hair needs in order to look it's best for styling purposes, we ask that you call or text the studio prior to your appointment to let us know what product you will be applying to your hair, or even bringing with you for our stylist to apply for you, on the day of your session.
Feel free to bring a few extra wardrobe options to your session. We will spend the first 15-20 minutes laying out all of your wardrobe, going over ideas with you, and picking out the perfect pieces for your session.
Please arrive at your scheduled time. No need to be early. If you are going to be late, however, please give us a call or text to let us know. Late arrivals will cut into your shoot time due to our other existing appointments. If you are more than 30 minutes late to your session, it will be cancelled and your session fee is non-refundable.
DAY OF SESSION CHECKLIST
☑️ Clean and dry or day old hair - Do not use hot tools on it or a bunch of product. Please do NOT come with wet hair.
☑️ No makeup, you can still moisturize the morning of.
☑️ Please wear LOOSE, NON-RESTRICTIVE CLOTHING to the studio. DO NOT wear jeans, tight leggins or any tight bottoms. We also understand that we are human and that there will be some lines.
☑️ You’ve TRIED ON all your pieces that you are bringing and that you feel amazing in them.
☑️ You’ve gotten good sleep the night before.
☑️ You’ve hydrated your body.
What to Avoid
Try not to stay up too late the night before your boudoir session! You'll look and feel your best if you get plenty of beauty sleep and wake up refreshed.
Don't overthink this! Remember that the emphasis of this photo session is going to be on YOU, not jewelry and overly extravagant outfits (or props). You also do not need to prepare a list of shots or poses that you think will work best for you. The Adore Girls' photographers have been specializing in professional boudoir photography for at least ten years, and we are experts at knowing what poses, lighting, and wardrobe will make you look your absolute best. So, all you need to do is relax and look forward to how much FUN you're going to have! We've got you!
Don't get caught up in your head about what you think your flaws are or what your photographers might think of them. The Adore Girls' boudoir studio is a 100% body-positive, judgement-free zone! Every single woman that has come through our studio doors has had cellulite, stretch marks, the baby bump that never seems to go away, one boob that sits a little higher than the other, little bumps on the butt, bruises, scratches, wrinkles, acne and all the other NORMAL things that all female bodies have. Trust us, we've seen it all!
Please DO NOT get a spray tan or use the tanning bed prior to your session! While we know that many fake tans look great in person, the way they photograph is a whole other story. In photos, deep tan spray tans and tanning-bed tans will leave you looking blotchy, streaky and orange. Our standard editing process does NOT include color correcting or evening out skin tones. Therefore, if you choose to spray tan or go to the tanning bed prior to your boudoir session, please be aware that your skin may look orange and/or unevenly colored in your photos, and you may also end up with a lot of black and white images in your final gallery. (In other words, please tan at your own risk!)
Watch those natural sun tan lines, too, and try to avoid sunburns! If you have light tan lines on the day of your session that are close to your natural skin color, we can usually soften those lines a little in editing. However, if your tan is very dark or if you are sunburnt (in stark contrast to your natural skin color), those lines and skin tones will remain visible in your final images. For these reasons (and also because it really is better for your health), we highly recommend using a high SPF sunscreen if you plan to have a lot of sun exposure before your session.
We prefer that you do not bring any props for your session, unless it is something small and has significance to you, such as a special book or coffee mug. This is because, again, the focus of your boudoir session should be on YOU, not a variety of objects you brought with you. If you have a small prop that you think you'd like to bring, please call or text the studio ahead of time so that we can plan to incorporate it into your photo shoot. (No guns are allowed in the studio EVER.)
Do not consume any alcohol or drugs prior your photo shoot. If you have taken any medications prior to your appointment, such as muscle relaxers or prescription drugs, we must be made aware of this immediately upon your arrival. If any member of The Adore Girls' team feels that you are intoxicated or otherwise impaired, we have the right to cancel the session and no refund will be issued.
No negative self-talk is allowed! While we understand that, as women, we tend to have our own insecurities and be our own worst critics, The Adore Girls' studio strives to be a negativity-free zone by discouraging negative self-talk and encouraging fun and positivity! We want you to embrace the skin you're in, trust your photographers to help you look and feel your best, and just enjoy how awesome and amazing this experience truly is!
Posing and Coaching
If you're nervous about whether or not you'll be able to pose as well as the other Adore Girls you've seen in our photos, don't worry, we completely understand your nerves and they thought the exact same thing. After all, it's not every day you have your pictures taken in lingerie (by virtual strangers, no less)! However, first and foremost, please know that we never expect our clients to show up to their sessions already knowing how to pose or how to "make a sexy face." Furthermore, we also understand that most of these poses are not exactly normal! No one really sits, stands, or lies around in these sultry positions on a regular basis. (Although, you might after your session!)
This is why we coach and direct you every step of the way. We will typically get into the pose ourselves to show you the idea, and then we will help coach you into that same pose. Just know that we always have your best interest in mind, and we tailor each pose to each individual client. We coach you through every subtle movement, as well as pose variations, to get he most natural and flattering images.
As for that part we mentioned above about "making a sexy face," you may be relieved to know that we will never ask you to "be sexy" or "make a sexy face". The facial expressions you see in our Adore Girls' photos are actually much more natural than what a lot of people expect. We may ask you to occasionally look down, look off to the side, or look into the camera, but rest assured we will never ever ask you to "look sexy." (Rawr!)
It has often been said that, while the poses always end up looking incredibly sexy in your photos, the process of getting into and out of those poses is anything BUT sexy! For that reason, we do a lot of laughing throughout our sessions, and we really do have the best time. In fact, the majority of our clients usually leave saying, "That was nothing like I expected. That was so much fun, and I cannot wait to do it again!"
This is what it's all about!! The fun!
Your Comfort is important to us…
Your Comfort Level
Your boudoir session is all about you and your comfort level, but if you need a little nudge to get out of your comfort zone, we are here to help! Before your session, we recommend you browse through our Portfolio and then ask yourself the question, "How sexy do I want to get?" You can also check out this BLOG POST about the Sexy Spectrum for your Session. If you tell us you want to get super sexy during your session, then we will suggest posing that is a little more seductive and provocative. However, if you decide that you'd like to be a little more modest or even middle-of-the-road in terms of sexiness, then we have plenty of poses for that, too!
The bottom line is that you always have the final say. Just because we suggest a certain pose doesn't mean that you HAVE to do it, and we also encourage you to speak up if you'd like to try a pose that is sexier or perhaps even less sexy that what we have suggested. After all, this session isn't for us, it's for YOU! The last thing we want is for you to leave the studio thinking, "I wish I would have posed sexier," or, "I wish I wouldn't have done some of those poses." So, again, feedback and input during your session is always highly encouraged, because this entire experience is all about YOU!
With that said, it is also important to note that we do have our limitations when it comes to posing. Everything we photograph at The Adore Girls is very tasteful, never smutty or raunchy. There is a fine line that separates Boudoir from Erotica, and we will not cross that line when it comes to posing.
