5 Wardrobe Pieces PERFECT for a Boudoir Session
If you have a boudoir session at The Adore Girls’ Nashville photography studio on the horizon, chances are you may be stressing out a bit about what to wear for your boudoir photos, which is understandable. There are SO many options and styles of lingerie available to choose from! However, what you may not realize is that you can have intimate portraits taken in many different types of wardrobe pieces that aren’t lingerie at all - everything from a cozy flannel, to a significant other’s favorite shirt, to a really cool jacket, right down to a simple white tank top and undies. Almost anything can look sexy in photographs, and we have the proof! We’ve seen it all, shot it all, and made ALL of it look absolutely fabulous. In fact, after reading this article, you may be surprised to learn that you already own several pieces from our list of 5 common wardrobe items that would be PERFECT for your upcoming boudoir session!
Robes, Kimonos, and Shawls
We’ve grouped all three of these popular garments into one category because they all essentially serve the same purpose, to drape over the shoulders and provide a little bit of extra torso coverage (unless worn with nothing underneath, of course). Robes, kimonos, and shawls come in a wide variety of patterns, lengths, and materials. So, finding one that suits your personality and style is a breeze, if you don’t already own one. We love adding these versatile pieces to our clients’ wardrobes because they can be photographed in such a wide variety of ways. Not only that, but we’ve found that a lot of women feel a little more comfortable being photographed in lingerie, especially at the beginning of their boudoir sessions, when they have a little extra layer of lightweight material to wrap up in.
Tees and Tanks
Whether graphic or plain, we see T-shirts and tank tops quite often in our studio, and for good reason. There are so many different ways you can style and wear them for a boudoir session! You can cut the necks of a tank or tee to create a deep “V” neck or even hang them off the shoulder, shorten them into a crop top, tug on them, pull them up, or wear them exactly how they’re meant to be worn. If you’re going for a cute and casual look, you can pair your T-shirt or tank top with a simple pair of panties and possibly add some leg warmers or knee socks. If you’re going for a vampier look, you can always opt for a thong, fence net stockings, or even no panties at all. ;) And if you are REALLY wanting to turn up the heat, we highly recommend our Wet T-Shirt/Tank Top Set!
Button-Up Shirts
Another great way to add an extra personal touch to your boudoir session is to wear either your favorite button-up shirt or one that belongs to your significant other. It doesn’t matter if it’s a formal oxford or a casual flannel shirt, this super sexy look is always a crowd pleaser! You can wear the shirt either by itself or over lingerie, roll up the sleeves, unbutton most or all of the buttons to reveal as much cleavage as you dare, let it hang off the shoulders, and even gather up the hem of the shirt to show off a little booty. The possibilities for styling and posing with a button-up shirt in boudoir photos are almost endless!
Sweaters and Cardigans
Even though sweaters and cardigans are usually associated with feeling comfy and cozy, they can also make you look and feel extremely sexy when styled properly for a boudoir photo shoot! When it comes to pullover sweaters, the best style options for boudoir are either slightly oversized with a wide neck (which is the most popular style we see in our studio), or cropped and form-fitting. However, if you’re wanting to really show off some cleavage or be a little more exposed, then open-front cardigans are your best option.
Coats and Jackets
Finally, rounding out our list of wardrobe items that you probably already own that can be worn for a boudoir session, we have coats and jackets! We absolutely love it when our clients bring in one of these versatile items because they can add such a fun and unique vibe to their photo set. We’ve photographed everything from motorcycle jackets, to long fur coats, military jackets, work blazers, trench coats….the list goes on and on! Whether you choose to be topless underneath or to wear your coat or jacket over lingerie, adding a super sexy pair of heels is the perfect finishing touch to complete this alluring look.
These are just a few examples of some common wardrobe items you may currently own that can look surprisingly seductive when worn either by themselves or paired with lingerie for a boudoir shoot. However, we hope this blog has also inspired you to think outside the box a little bit and re-examine your own closet to see what other unique items you may already have that would look AMAZING in boudoir photos!
